Savannah, Georgia February 19-23, 2024 The American Traditions Vocal Competition was born of the desire to foster and preserve traditions of musical expression, which have been significant in the culture of the United States, both in past eras and at the present time. In contrast to many music competitions that focus on European repertoire, the American Traditions Competition celebrates the repertoire that represents both the art and the popular cultures of our country. Genres include Americana, Art Song, Blues, Country, Folk, Gospel. March 1-10, 2024 The Huntington Theatre role: Little Stone (cover) Eurydice dies too young on her wedding day, and the opera Eurydice follows her journey into the underworld, which pulls her into new depths of forgetfulness, despair, and unfathomable loss. In this new retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice’s myth, based on the play by Sarah Ruhl, explore the powerful ties of family and love, parents and children, husband and wife. Lotte Lenya Competition FinalsKilbourn Hall Rochester, NY May 4, 2024 The Kurt Weill Foundation for Music has named the ten exceptional singing actors who will compete for a top prize of $25,000 in the final round of the twenty-sixth annual Lenya Competition, the internationally renowned theatrical singing contest. With its focus on both acting and vocal skills, the Lenya Competition celebrates talented singing actors of all nationalities who can “do it all” across the dynamic landscape of music theater. The ten finalists emerged from the Competition’s semifinal round, which features a unique judging-coaching format. Previously selected from an initial pool of 286 applicants representing 25 countries and 37 U.S. states, twenty semifinalists each performed a continuous fifteen-minute program of four contrasting numbers, including one by Kurt Weill.
